Cole's 1st Birthday Party

Cole's 1st birthday party, while special and a cause to celebrate, didn't go as planned. Somehow, we got stuck with rain and very cold temperatures... on July 3rd.... in Missouri. People were huddled in their emergency car blankets and cleared out pretty quickly. Two months of crafting and planning all got destroyed in the rain. Cole cried most of the day because it was so cold and we didn't get to do the cake mashing while the guests were there because he was bundled in some borrowed baby sweats. The plants I planted didn't bloom in time. The 100+ pinwheels I'd made out of construction paper were sagging and disintegrating before the guests even got there. And, because of the rain, I didn't pull my camera out to take many pictures. So here are the few we did take. Oh, and the video of the swirling vortex above our heads. I grabbed the camera just in time for it to dissipate and unfortunately missed the most dramatic parts of it but you get the idea.

Anyway, here is what we did get.

The wall/clothesline of photos and the onesies from his monthly birthday photo shoots got windblown and soaked in rain. I ended up only leaving just a few of the photos up. Those lines were supposed to be covered in photos of Cole from the first year.

I planted 180 baby jars with red, white and blue morning glories and some sweet peas because I ran out of seeds for the others. ;) They all sprouted but didn't bloom in time for the party. They were party favors but the stickers got ruined by rain. It was my attempt at recycling while saving some pennies while increasing the world's oxygen supply.

He was a little hesitant to dig in. We kinda forced it on him but he got the gist after a while.

He passed out on the couch at the end of the night like this. I forgot to put the thank you paper on the table when he was covered in cake so we set this up last minute.

All in all, I had fun. It was exhausting and a little bittersweet but we celebrated my little man's life in a big big way!  Thanks to everyone who braved the torrential downpour and freezing rain to be a part of Cole's big day with us! Next year, we're going to do it closer to home so we have somewhere inside to escape to! And YES, I have already started planning and crafting for the next one!

About Me

My photo
I'm a new wife and an even newer mom. I have a secret dream to be super-mom. I love to craft, cook, dance and fill my life with as many adventures as possible. I'm slightly crunchy granola but enjoy a good steak. I'm right brained and type B (with some type A tendencies). I thrive best when I get to use my creative juices. I dabble in photography and party planning. I play piano and have a dream to learn the cello. I want to make the most of this one, short life I find myself living.

About This Blog

This blog was originally intended to be a personal journal of my pregnancy journey and all that that entails--shared with only a few close family members. It was a way for me to keep them posted on all things baby and occasionally post a picture of my growing torso so they could see the progress. After several posts, I started to get hooked on other blogs and became motivated to attempt to do more with mine. We'll see how it goes....
